*UPDATE* A Reply to Reader Feedback on this Article.
While working on the next article in this series, we have been getting a lot of community feedback. We would like to take this opportunity to discuss some of that great feedback here.
COMMENT: “This article is just an advertisement for Cuttwood, disguised as an article about How to Start a Premium e Juice Company.”
Love Cuttwood or hate Cuttwood, facts and history are still what they are. Austin Hopper took Cuttwood’s business and marketing down some logical paths used thousands of times before. The point here is he did it and he did it very early on before many other companies did. Cuttwood was selected for this article because it is currently the number one selling e Juice; nothing more or less. So if we are to learn how to create a premium e juice business, we need to study the current market leaders and those that are historically the most successful. Cuttwood hasn’t directly or indirectly paid or compensated this magazine in any way to include them as an example, they are included for purely historical and marketing reasons as one of the best examples for this series of articles.
COMMENT: “If your ejuice tastes like ass I don’t care if it’s bottled in an actual alien skull bottle, like you went to space found an alien and cut its head off to bottle your juice …. doesn’t make you premium.”
This has to be one of the funniest comments, but it is completely TRUE. This reader’s comment nailed the point right on the head! As equally true, you could have gone “Back to the Future” and got the best flavor profile of the then World’s Record Holding top premium e juice EVER sold, but if you come back to the present time and slap it into an ugly house bottle and market it on an ugly website and social channels; people will not know its any better or worse than a million other crappy premium e juices on the market …. tasting premium doesn’t make people know and perceive you as premium. But do not fret, if you need help with your website, labels, branding, marketing, social, graphics or designs, contact this magazine we would be happy to help. See the form at the end of this article.
COMMENT: “They even give u a chance to upload your work so they can steal it. How nice.”
This comment made us the most sad, sad that people even have these types of fears in this community. 99.9% percent of the designs seen on this magazine are designed by this magazine. With the ability to create our own designs, there is no need to steal artwork. When we ask people to upload their files in the form at the end of this article, this would be us asking for examples of your work or your portfolio IE your resume of your writing or design work to be considered. This magazine goes out of it’s way to assist the community to succeed, through design and writing sponsorship programs. The point of this article is to explore the process of premium branding and to understand the power of market perception and doing all this while creating an example premium e juice marketing program for advocacy.
COMMENT: “This article is just a How to, showing how to Steal Intellectual Property and praising them for it.”
This was not the theme behind this article and we apologize if some readers walked away with that impression. Our intention was simply to say, don’t cut corners. Put your best effort into all aspects of your branding and you’ll have the highest chance of success like Cuttwood. Both Cuttwood and Jack Daniels put obviously considerable amount of focus into all aspects of their business models and both are rewarded for that. Whether either brand is premium or not is simply a matter of personal opinion.
Did Cuttwood steal intellectual property as some readers are suggesting? I wouldn’t think so, but you just don’t know either way. More to the point is, who’s place is it to make such a bold statement. Many readers are asking this magazine to weigh in and take sides with a stance on intellectual property law and state what Cuttwood did was illegal. We are not lawyers and we do not consult lawyers on every article. No one knows the facts behind every business’s operation or any of the agreements it might have and it is NOT the position of this magazine to make such slanderous statements. For all we know Cuttwood could be paying licensing to Jack Daniels or it was not viewed as infringing. All this magazine was focusing on is Cuttwood’s attention to detail and success; nothing more or less.
COMMENT: “The irony of stealing mothers milk is great … isn’t there already a company called Zombie e juice?”
The Zombie e Juice advocacy was intended as a non profit cooperation of premium e juice brands under a fun theme of zombies to give to advocacy. Including the name Mother’s Milk was simply an invitation to Suicide Bunny and an example of what that brand would look like as a zombie. Due to the surprisingly negative opinions given to a Zombie brand and any possible intellectual property issues, this magazine has decided to go with a different branding theme in the next article.
It is the strong opinion of this magazine, if you’re branding; make it creative and unique as not to infringe on anyone’s intellectual property. If you are only now realizing you might have infringed on someone’s intellectual property, then consult a trademark attorney and change it now before there are any issues. Don’t wait thinking that because nothing has happen yet, it might not happen. In many cases if you correct the mistake ahead of time, you won’t ever hear anything further.
It was also suggested that we retract this story. This magazine will not retract stories like this one out of fear we might offend, when no honest offense was intended. Whether you think the vaping industry should “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” doesn’t change the fact intellectual property law is the law and that is a fact. The industry is too mature now to keep sweeping these types of IP topics under the carpet and hope it all goes away. So we are thankful for our readership feedback affording us this opportunity to address these real issues.
In conclusion it should be noted, vaping is a very young industry that is still finding it’s way. Early demand for premium e liquids made a lot of premium e liquid companies successful almost overnight. Many of these young “monthly millionaires” are still even now learning what to do and what not to do as this industry matures further. There are growing pains that come from inexperience and growth of this nature. The vape industry as a whole needs to better govern itself before it is painfully govern for us.
**Each and every readers feedback is extremely important and we ask that you use your community voice and comment in the comments at the end of this article.**

How to Start a Premium e Juice Business With so many premium e juices on the market, it’s like a sea of walking dead. What will make your brand stand out as a premium e juice?
To answer that, let us first define what makes a premium e juice premium? A premium e juice is premium because it is perceived as premium. As in the saying “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.” We perceive something as premium when we can clearly see it is a market leader and there was special attention paid to every detail of it’s branding, marketing and development.
Compare Cuttwood Premium e Juice to a Jack Daniels Whiskey Bottle
“You instinctively know how to judge premium quality because in your mind you are always subconsciously comparing brands to other top brands you have seen and know as premium of similar category such as alcohol bottles etc.”
Because we are all subject to the human condition to over complicate things, lets look at premium e juices in the most basic sense, starting with the bottle. When you hold a bottle of a top branded premium e juices in your hand, what makes you think this is a premium e juice if no one had told you it was so? You start by judging the bottle’s appearance and aesthetic qualities. You may never have known why you know and can judge premium quality, you just seem to instinctively know. You instinctively know how to judge premium quality because in your mind you are always subconsciously comparing brands to other top brands you have seen and know as premium of similar category such as alcohol bottles etc.
Compare Cuttwood Premium e Juice Marketing to Jack Daniels Whiskey Marketing
“Cuttwood knowingly or unknowingly modeled their premium e juice similar to Jack Daniels in their startup and with “BOSS RESERVE””
Think about this for a moment. When you saw your first bottle of Cuttwood, what made Cuttwood premium e juice seem premium? Cuttwood carries the same attention to detail like a bottle of Jack Daniels! Quality design work and a special attention to the details is premium branding at its best. Some would say this was a smart branding move or a happy coincidence, but it appears to have worked wonders for them. Either way, they had the cool factor going for them in the exact demographic they were targeting. So before even tasting the premium e juice, you are already accepting to or even drawn to the label. Whether Cuttwood knowingly or unknowingly modeled their premium e juice similar to Jack Daniels in their startup and with “BOSS RESERVE” is not the main focus of this article and is not recommend unless you have secured licensing agreements. In the end like it or not we do in fact judge a book by its cover and the cover is where it all starts.

“What makes you think this is a premium e juice if no one had told you it was so?” – “If your e juice is sub par, you critically cripple your chances of passing that premium judgement”
You can have the greatest premium e juice bottle design, but if your e juice is sub par, you critically cripple your chances of passing that premium judgement. The good news is now after 7 years of premium e juice market development you have thousands of DIY e juice recipes and thousands of 3rd party premium e juice developers to help you along the way. Your odds of creating or perfecting your yummy premium e juice has gone up a thousand folds since just 5 years ago. It is our opinion as the market continues to mature, it will become less and less critical to have those secret premium e juice flavor profiles as it will be to have a unique brand and marketing strategy. For this reason this series of articles will not be focusing on how premium e juices are made. Rather we will only be focusing on the flavors and how they relate to branding and flavor branding. We feel confident you can and will make a premium e juice. If you are having trouble with your premium e juice bottle designs or recipes, VAPEMagazine.com can give suggestions on and assist you with developing a premium e juice or give you a second opinion on a premium e juice manufacturer’s terms and or buy out offer for your premium recipes. For the purposes of this article let us assume you have the perfect premium e juices and it passes that critical premium e juice judgement.
Now picture this, you just finished that yummy bottle of premium e juice you were given in the above example. What now? How do you get more? Do you throw the bottle away? It is empty after all. So you decide to toss the bottle in your garbage and start searching online for it. It’s a premium e juice. You start by searching “premium e juices” on Google. You find many premium e juice websites and think to yourself why doesn’t this company just list their premium e juice on these websites? In desperation, you type in what you believed was the brand name in .com in your browser URL line and get either a very ugly amateur website, no website or only a supporting Facebook page. You begin to question. If this is an established brand of premium e juices, why doesn’t this brand have a standard professional website? Can’t they afford a website? You think to yourself and run some quick numbers in your head. They would have to be selling less than 500 total bottles of e juice ever to not afford a website. This is made even worse if the website was done by an online website builder or designed badly because it was done for you free by a friend or relative. A golden rule to follow is “nothing in life is free”. You will always pay in the end in one way or another. In the above example, it was a possible new customer lost. Premium e Juices are considered premium, because they look premium, act premium and talk premium. In other words, They look like a duck, swim like a duck, and quack like a duck, then they are probably a duck.
Compare the Quality of Cuttwood’s Premium e Juice Website
“Here you can see the company is clearly just as professionally branded in website as it is in the premium e juice bottle you hold in your hands.”
To give this example story a happy ending that would be expected of a truly premium e juice, let’s say you went back outside and got that bottle out of the garbage and typed in the now unique and memorable brand name. Now your confidence is fortified and assured in your new premium e juice selection. Here you can see the company is clearly just as professionally branded in website as it is in the premium e juice bottle you hold in your hands. When you visit all the social channels the strong premium branding is consistent and carried through out, giving a strong sense of quality and stability. You see hand checks and reviews across all social channels. You are now confident you have chosen your brand wisely for premium e juices.
How to Select a Premium e Juice Brand?
“Holy cow you gotta try this premium e juice!”. “HolyCow e juice, that’s it. It’s a great idea and it is memorable.”
How do you select a brand. When selecting a brand, it should be memorable and even fun. It should speak volumes about your premium e juice. Like “Holy cow you gotta try this premium e juice!”. HolyCow e juice, that’s it. It’s a great idea and it is memorable. But then on further research you find out sadly, its already taken by a very nice gentleman out of Indiana that makes one of the best strawberry milk flavored premium e juices called Pink Bunny. Back to the drawing board you go. Then you think to yourself the brand must almost be timeless and be loved over the ages. Who doesn’t LOVE Zombies! That’s it, Zombie e Juices! You do your home work and see the name can be leveraged and acquired. For the purposes of this series of articles, VAPEMagazine.com acquires ZombieeJuice.com. Let’s start a premium e juice company!
We’ll start a Premium e Juice Company together!
“Picture a zombie, she is chained to a wall with some sort of old steampunk machinery extracting the mother’s milk from her zombie breasts. Now that’s a Premium e Juice!”
Building a brand around a great concept, the ideas start rushing in. Zombies are very old and obviously very well steeped. Zombieism is an aged condition that can apply to all other concepts of milk, blood and puke for bunnies, unicorns and mothers etc. ZombieeJuice.com could offer a Zombie Unicorn Blood with an image of a realistic looking unicorn zombie, aged no less than 30 days for that just ripe smell and taste. When you allow your imagination to run wild all sorts of crazy images come to mind. Having knowledge of the law is also good for great ideas. How about a breast feeding zombie mother. Picture a zombie, she is chained to a wall with some sort of old steampunk machinery extracting the mother’s milk from her zombie breasts. With recent changes in law we know images of breast feeding mothers are now legal to post as public breast feeding is now also legal. Free the nipple!
*UPDATE Change of Theme in Response to Reader Feedback on this Article.*
First we would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful feedback and submissions we’ve received for an advocacy movement. We equally appreciate all the negative feedback we have received against it being specifically a Zombie movement. Perhaps Zombies are best left on the big screen. To give a little background and response to our readership feedback, the Zombie e Juice advocacy was intended as a non profit cooperation of premium e juice brands under a fun theme of zombies to give certain portion of those profits to advocacy. We included Mother’s Milk as a subtle invitation to Suicide Bunny and as an example of what that brand would look like as a zombie. But again due to the surprisingly negative opinions given to a Zombie theme and any possible intellectual property issues, this magazine has decided to go with a different branding theme in the next article.
Lets get more ideas on ways to spin popular premium e juices. Perhaps this magazine can partner with other premium e juice manufacturers to reproduce advocacy versions of their premium e juices and give part of the profits from those joint efforts to advocacy with groups such as SFATA and or CASAA. Who doesn’t like advocacy as a good cause. Enter your ideas for advocacy in the form below and we’ll post the best of those ideas socially. Please follow @VAPEMagazinecom on all social channels and or click the share buttons to the left of this article so we can update you on your advocacy ideas.

We think and rethink about ideas with all senses of sight and sound, smell and taste, from concepts of the mechanical to the organic. As an example, a community resource of sight, could be by forming special relationships with industry photographers, videographers and makeup & special effect artists wanting to get a name for themselves by donating time, images and videos. We could sponsor reviewers, tricksters and those seeking sponsorship and displaying their advocacy photos on the website and social channels.
